KeFU Courtyard

KeFU stay and lounge  2024

KeFU Hotel, a charming boutique destination in Kyoto’s Nishijin area, sought a redesign of their courtyard space to reflect the rich local aesthetic. We decided to make custom lighting fixtures that seamlessly blend with the area’s heritage. Using Nishijin textiles from a nearby workshop, we crafted lighting units that transmit light from behind. These textiles were thoughtfully arranged in a checkerboard pattern on the wooden louvered wall, creating a striking visual effect.

The textiles are bonded to glass through a specialised process, ensuring durability and suitability for semi-outdoor spaces. We carefully selected patterns and colours that enhance the transmission of light, resulting in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

On the opposite wall, we incorporated the hotel’s logo using the same Nishijin textiles. The logo is designed to be large and backlit, making it a prominent and recognisable feature of the courtyard.

This transformed courtyard space is set to become an iconic spot for KeFU Hotel, showcasing lighting fixtures that celebrate the unique character of the Nishijin area.
